Dr Andrei Krassioukov is currently seeking a PhD student and a Postdoctoral Fellow to study in the Cardiovascular Autonomic Laboratory at ICORD. For more information, please click here.

About Dr. Krassioukov

Dr. Andrei Krassioukov is a world-renowned expert in autonomic dysreflexia following spinal cord injury. He is a physician in the Spinal Cord Program at Vancouver Coastal Health's G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre. He is also an Associate Director of ICORD and a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of British Columbia.

About ICORD

ICORD (International Collaboration On Repair Discoveries) is an interdisciplinary UBC research centre focused on spinal cord injury. This unique initiative brings together spinal cord injury researchers from the Sciences, Medicine, Surgery, Rehabilitation, Engineering, Education, and community-based Humanities research. ICORD is located within the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre (BSCC) on the site of Vancouver General Hospital and is thus also a part of Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI). Research: from cells to community

The focus of Dr. Krassioukov's laboratory includes both cellular and community level research. Projects range from examining the mechanisms behind autonomic dysfunctions resulting from injury to the spinal cord, to educating health care providers on management of cardiovascular emergencies in persons with spinal cord injury. Autonomic Dysreflexia

Individuals with spinal cord injury, most commonly those with an injury above T6, experience a life threatening condition known as autonomic dysreflexia (AD). It is characterized by severe, uncontrolled episodes of hypertension, which may be accompanied by headaches, slowed heart rate and upper body flushing. The study of this life threatening condition is the major focus of Dr. Krassioukov's basic science and clinical research at ICORD.
